Recent Events:

On March 13, 2024, the mural at the Corona Senior Center was unveiled. CAA 1st VP Lori Alarcon's design was selected by the patrons at the center from several entries. With the help of the Corona Art Association members and friends, the Corona Rotary Club, the Santiago High School Interact Club, and the Santiago HS Art Club, the mural was made a reality! The mural is 54 feet wide and took nearly 40 volunteers to paint over several weeks. Then on April 17th, CAA was recognized at the Corona City Council meeting.

Lori Alarcon, Kathryn Duncan, Lysa Ashley, Karla Barney, and Michelle taught the free youth art classes on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings under our grant from the Ruth and Joseph C. Reed Foundation for the Arts. Classes ended for the season on June 1. The teens were introduced to a wide variety of styles and mediums and it has been a joy to provide these art classes to our community.

On April 10th, the CAA team was out at Citrus Intermediate School TK and kinder and STEAM ( science, technology engineering, ART, and mathematics) night. Integrating art into the sciences is incredibly important and useful! Many of our CAA artists are scientists … we have several engineers, a chemist, an anthropologist, and more. The crossover of their skills makes for better art and science! And on May 15, Lori Alarcon did a special art class with these teens for the YMCA.

General Meeting demos have included our friend Lura from Woman's Improvement Club of Corona showing us how to make this adorable bunny cake and how to turn ordinary gum drops into candy flowers, and experimented with heavy body acrylic paints to create these amazing Monet inspired dimensional paintings.

The Corona Art Association was happy to be apart of Corona HS for Mental Health Awareness week on Monday, May 15.

On May 22, the Circle City Rotary Club granted CAA $500 which was accepted by CAA members Lori and Alex Alarcon, Kim Mabon, and Amelia Nieves. This grant was the final amount we needed to complete our long-awaited sink installation. Thanks also to the City of Corona, CAA members Leanna Griffin and Chris Bozar for their major contributions to this project.

Congratulations to CNUSD high school seniors Caiya and Jenell for winning our Maxine Piester Memorial Scholarship this year! Both students will be studying visual arts in college in the Fall. Corona Art Association members raise funds all year to provide two scholarships to local seniors going on to study visual arts after high school. We wish you all the best!!

CAA Members have contributed to several of the Canvas on the Curb utility boxes! The latest include Lori Alarcon's at Main and Ontario, and Kim Mabon's by Lamppost Pizza on Main and Rincon. Crystal Miao's is by the Applebee's on Promenade and McKinley.
