Recent Events Round-Up!
July 6, 2022, CAA members Carol Soliday, Darla Fox, and Laura Seltzer completed the Mosaic from Your Design or Photo 3 week class with Becky Floyd. Great job everyone!
CAA member and book artist, Chris Frausto taught a very successful altered books workshop with several CAA and community members on July 9, 2022. Chris will be back in the future if you missed it and want to try your hand at this amazing art form!
At our July 5th Board Meeting, we welcomed the appointment and approval of two new directors at large to the governing board of the Corona Art Association. We are pleased to introduce Kim Mabon, Director of Business Development and Karla Barney, Director of Volunteer Services. Both Kim and Karla have plenty of experience in the areas they are now overseeing, and we are inspired by their vision and energy! Welcome Kim and Karla!
Our July 12th General Meeting featured an interactive demonstration by CAA member Kathryn Duncan on Golden Paints water medium. It was a fascinating experience learning about and experimenting with these watercolor-like paints and other treatments. Our General Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 6-8pm. All members and prospective members are welcome to attend!
July 13 and 20, 2022 CAA member and 2nd VP, Becky Floyd taught the first and second of her "Art of Science" teen classes funded by the Reed Foundation for the Arts. The classes introduce students to a new artistic medium while learning some science along the way. The first class focused on sculpting starfish out of polymer clay while discussing the biology and behavior of sea stars and other echinoderms. The second class, students experimented with alcohol inks on glass to create a stained-glass-effect, while discussing the history and physics of glass and stained glass art. Some really fun conversations took place! We have two more classes to look forward to, painting beetles on rocks and mini mosaics magnets (all classes are full!).
July 23rd, CAA member and decorative painter, Rose Melgoza, taught an acrylic paint and hot glue mixed media class for teens under our Reed Foundation grant. The kids did a wonderful job (and so did Rose and Karla) and their paintings turned out beautifully!
